ASX media release - ASX and Dymocks launch Internet book site

10 March 1999

The Australian Stock Exchange and Dymocks Booksellers have commenced a strategic alliance to electronically market finance and investment publications and software.

This new electronic bookshop can be accessed through ASX ShareNet (www.asx.com.au), by clicking on the ASX/Dymocks icon. Customers can browse through the bookshop and make a purchase by using their credit card. Ordered books and software will be mailed to the customer.

The ASX/Dymocks Bookshop is a joint venture between the Australian Stock Exchange and Dymocks Booksellers. An extensive range of top-selling finance and investment titles will be offered, with new products being reviewed and added to the range on a regular basis.

Most titles have a small synopsis and an image of the front cover, enabling customers to better assess whether the book is appropriate for their needs.

Stock is arranged by categories to make it easy to find particular topics. For example: Best Sellers and New Releases; Understanding the Sharemarket; Investment Analysis and Charting; Biographies and Histories; Understanding Accounts; Derivatives, Options and Warrants; and Other Investments will all be offered as easy access categories.

The electronic bookshop also has a recommended reading list for each of the ASX courses, which can be accessed by selecting the name of the relevant course from the ASX Investment Courses section of the web site.

ASX Managing Director Richard Humphry said, "We are pleased to be entering into this joint venture with Dymocks that has been designed to simplify the process of selecting and purchasing financial and investment publications and software. The electronic bookshop complements the share market information already available on ASX ShareNet.

"With ASX’s web site averaging around 12,000 visits per day and more than 40 per cent of all adult Australians currently owning shares, it is clear that the Internet is a logical way to provide share market material to private investors."

Keith Perkins, Managing Director of Dymocks Booksellers, said, "This is a new and exciting opportunity for Dymocks to reach out to a specialised segment of our book-buying public. We are pleased to have been selected by ASX for this alliance and believe it will be a great success."
