SUMMARY

* Underground mining to recommence at Big Bell
* Gold production forecasts for Big Bell for the September Quarter
2000 and current financial year are expected to be met

DETAILS

Following a comprehensive review by the Company and Department of
Minerals and Energy, mining of the upper levels of the0
 Big Bell
underground mine will recommence as from Friday 15 September 2000.
The upper levels of the underground mine have not been subject to
seismic activity or damage. Investigations and reviews of seismic
activity and workforce safety in the lower levels of the mine are
continuing with the objective of re-establishing production activity.

Increased ore production from the Cuddingwarra Black Swan open pits
will allow the Big Bell Gold Operations to meet or exceed the gold0

production forecasts for the September quarter 2000.

For the financial year ahead, increased open pit production from the
Black Swan pits and two new pits, Golden Gate and Rheingold at
Cuddingwarra will largely compensate for lower production from Big
Bell underground.

The company's forecast gold production of 350,000 ounces for this
financial year is anticipated to be met.

A memorial service for the late Mr Rodney Criddle, the miner who died
as a result of the rock fall 0
on 2 September, is to be held at Big
Bell on Thursday 14 September.
