ANZ today announced the appointment of Mr James MacKenzie as Managing
Director, Funds Management.

Mr MacKenzie joins ANZ from Norwich Union Australia where he was Chief
Executive Officer. Previously, he was Managing Director, Transport
Accident Commission and prior to that he held senior positions at
Standard Chartered Bank.

ANZ Chief Executive Officer, Mr John McFarlane said: "James is a
great addition to ANZ's senior management team and I am excited that
he has agreed to join us".

Mr MacKenzie will be responsible for the development of ANZ's
insurance, investment products and asset management businesses as
part of ANZ's strategy to accelerate growth in personal financial
services. His role will also include leveraging ANZ's leading
position with corporate and institutional clients.

As Mr MacKenzie's role is key to ANZ's Personal Financial Services
strategy, he will report to Mr Peter Hawkins, Head of Personal
Financial Services.

"Growth in personal financial services requires us to leverage ANZ's
distribution power by providing integrated financial services
offerings," Mr Hawkins said.

"Funds management and insurance have a critical role to play and we
are delighted to have someone with James' experience and ability to
help move us to the next level of performance," he said.

Mr MacKenzie will join ANZ on 8 March 2000.
