On 3 November 1999 Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited
announced that it had put in place an on market buyback scheme that
would enable it to buyback up to a total of 48 million ordinary
shares at a cost of up to $500 million.

At 27 March 2000 the Company completed its purchase of the 48 million
ordinary shares at a cost of $508.6 million.
