ANZ today announced plans to withdraw from its client futures
execution and clearing operation, ANZ Futures.

ANZ's strategy of specialisation, eTransformation and growth involves
focusing on those areas where ANZ has or can develop distinctive
capabilities.

The decision will complete withdrawal from several small residual
activities following the sale of ANZ's retail stockbroking business
to Salomon Smith Barney announced in September 1999. These include
the sale of ANZ's share in its equity clearing services joint
venture, ANZ MeesPierson Clearing Services, to its joint venture
partner earlier this year.
