AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND BANKING GROUP LI 2001-02-14 ASX-SIGNAL-G HOMEX - Melbourne +++++++++++++++++++++++++ ANZ today announced a new business structure to improve services for its 4 million metropolitan and regional customers in Australia and New Zealand. ANZ's General Banking business, which provides banking services to the general consumer market, will be organised into two businesses, Metrobanking and Regionalbanking, to allow ANZ to better focus on the needs of customers in each segment. Ms Elizabeth Proust has been appointed Managing Director Metrobanking, including the management of Personal eCommerce. Ms Proust is currently Group General Manager Corporate Affairs and Human Resources. Ms Alison Watkins has been appointed Managing Director Regionalbanking. Ms Watkins is currently Managing Director Personal eCommerce and was formerly Group General Manager Strategy at ANZ. This business will enable ANZ to provide greater attention to the distinct issues of customers in regional and rural communities. ANZ Group Managing Director Personal Financial Services Mr Peter Hawkins said the changes were another step in the development of a more segmented, customer-focused approach within ANZ's Personal Financial Services business. "These new roles will significantly raise the profile of the metropolitan and regional customer segments, putting them on an equal footing with other customer groups across ANZ," he said. Mr Hawkins said the introduction of the new structure was timely, given the current Managing Director General Banking, Mr Larry Crawford, has advised he intends to retire after his sixtieth birthday later this year. "Larry has been with ANZ for just over three years and has made a major contribution to the Personal Financial Services business, particularly in driving a high performance culture," said Mr Hawkins. "He will certainly be missed." The new changes take effect in the next few weeks. Ms Proust will continue her current responsibilities for Corporate Affairs and Human Resources on an interim basis.
