Appoints new Head of Risk Management

ANZ today announced the appointment of Dr Mark Lawrence as Group
General Manager Risk Management, reporting to Chief Financial
Officer, Mr Peter Marriott.

Dr Lawrence will replace Mr Elmer Funke Kupper who was recently
appointed ANZ Head of International.

Originally from Adelaide, Dr Lawrence is currently Director and Head
of Market Risk for SG Cowen Securities Corporation, a subsidiary of
Societe Generale in New York. Previously he was Managing Director
Market Risk Group at Bear Stearns and Co Inc and spent several years
as an independent risk management consultant, and was a founding
member of the Risk Management Group at Merrill Lynch & Co. Dr
Lawrence holds a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin
- Madison.

Dr Lawrence will return to Australia to take up his new position
effective from the middle of July.
