ANZ today announced the appointment of Mr Roger Davis as Head of
Corporate Financial Services, reporting to ANZ Chief Executive
Officer, Mr John McFarlane.

Mr Davis will join ANZ after a senior career at Citicorp, where he is
currently Managing Director and Global Industry Head, Insurance based
in New York. Prior to that he was Managing Director and Head of North
American Financial Institutions Banking, following eight years in
Asia, based in Japan.

Mr Davis is a Rhodes Scholar with a Postgraduate Degree in Management
Studies from Oxford University and a Bachelor of Economics (Hons)
from Sydney University. He played rugby union at national level for
the Wallabies.

Mr Davis will become a member of ANZ's Executive Management
Committee. His responsibilities will include Global Investment
Banking, Business Banking in Australia and New Zealand, International
Services, Esanda and UDC, Asset Management and Corporate E-commerce.
He will also oversee ANZ's operations in the United Kingdom and the
United States of America. Mr Davis will be based in Sydney and will
have special strategic responsibility for advancing the Group's
business in New South Wales.

"Roger brings enormous US and international experience to ANZ. This
will help us in developing our considerable existing strengths in
corporate and wholesale banking domestically and internationally. We
are delighted to have him," Mr McFarlane said.

Mr Davis and his family will be returning home to Sydney from the
United States, taking up the position in October 1999.
