ISSUE OF OPTIONS AND FULLY PAID ORDINARY SHARES

The Bank advises that on 27 October 1999:

* options to acquire 1,000,000 fully paid ordinary shares were issued
  for the beneficial interest of five eligible employees under the 
  ANZ Group Share Option Scheme; and

* 219,732 fully paid ordinary shares were issued for the beneficial
  interest of three eligible employees under the ANZ Employee Share
  Acquisition Plan.
