HOMEX - Melbourne

ANZ today announced two group senior management appointments.

Mr David Airey will become Managing Director, Global Private Banking
based in Melbourne. Mr Airey is currently Managing Director, ANZ
Banking Group (New Zealand) Limited. David joined ANZ in March l997
as Managing Director, ANZ Banking Group (New Zealand) Limited. Prior
to that he was Chief Executive Officer of the Bank of Melbourne.

Dr Murray Horn will become Managing Director of ANZ Banking Group
(New Zealand) Limited, replacing Mr Airey, and Chairman of ANZ
Investment Bank in New Zealand. Dr Horn joined ANZ in September 1997
as General Manager, Strategic Planning. Prior to this he had a
distinguished career with the New Zealand Government where he had
been Secretary to the Treasury since 1993. He received his Doctorate
from Harvard University in 1988.

Mr John McFarlane, Chief Executive Officer, commented: "In his new
role Mr Airey will focus on the strategic development of one of the
fastest growing segments in banking, which will provide a broad range
of services worldwide to our wealthiest clients. With respect to
Murray, it was important for him to have worked for a short period in
Head Office to gain a perspective over ANZ's global operations prior
to taking this senior line appointment. His standing in the community
and his extensive experience in New Zealand together provide an
excellent foundation for his new role".

Mr David Valentine, who is currently heading our acquisition planning
unit, will also become acting Head of Group Strategy, working closely
with Mr McFarlane.

These appointments are effective from 1 March 1998.
