HOMEX - Melbourne +++++++++++++++++++++++++ ANZ today announced senior appointments to a newly created division, to be known as New Banking, which will oversee the creation of its businesses of the future. The establishment of the New Banking division was announced by ANZ Chief Executive Officer, Mr John McFarlane at the ANZ Annual General Meeting in January 1998. The role of New Banking will be to create new business and customer franchises, in many cases in partnership with other organisations with complementary skills. Responsibility for New Banking, in addition to Cards, will be assumed by Mr Charles Carbonaro, Managing Director, Global Cards and New Banking. Reporting to Mr Peter Hawkins, Global Head of Personal Banking, Mr Carbonaro's new role builds on ANZ's success in working with other organisations and in taking market leadership in the Cards business. Reporting to Mr Carbonaro, in the new role of General Manager, New Banking, is Mr Rob Markham, currently General Manager, Direct Banking. "The changing regulatory environment and rapid development of new technology is challenging the financial services industry to develop new products and seek new ways to deliver services to consumers," Mr Hawkins said. "In this environment, partnerships and alliances will be an important part of creating the financial services company of the future - in harnessing technology, developing distribution opportunities and building scale efficiencies. "New Banking will allow us to focus on developing these opportunities which will transform the way we do business at ANZ," he said.
