MEDIA RELEASE

ANZ today announced changes to its senior management, to accelerate
the development of its consumer and wealth management customer
businesses. ANZ's successful specialist business structure remains
intact.

Mr Elmer Funke Kupper takes up a new role of Group Managing Director
Personal Customers reporting to Mr Peter Hawkins, Group Managing
Director Personal Financial Services.

In his new role, Mr Funke Kupper is responsible for ANZ's personal
customer and wealth management businesses in Australia, New Zealand,
the Pacific and Asia. This includes ANZ's three Australian customer
businesses - Metrobanking, Regionalbanking and Wealth Management. A
new business covering these three segments in New Zealand has been
established, reporting to Mr Funke Kupper, to create greater focus on
the New Zealand market. This will increase the number of Group
specialist businesses from 16 to 17. Mr Funke Kupper will continue to
oversee ANZ Investments including the proposed wealth management
joint-venture.

Mr Funke Kupper, previously Group Managing Director International and
Subsidiaries, will continue to be a member of ANZ's Executive
Management Committee.

Mr Hawkins and Mr Roger Davis, Group Managing Director Corporate
Financial Services, will have expanded responsibilities. Asset Based
Finance joins other core product businesses within Personal Financial
Services. Asia joins Corporate Financial Services.

In addition, Mr Peter Marriott, Chief Financial Officer, will assume
Mr Funke Kupper's other responsibilities including Group Strategy. Mr
Mark Lawrence, Group General Manager Risk Management, will report
directly to Mr John McFarlane, Chief Executive Officer.

Commenting on the changes, Mr McFarlane said: "Our specialist
business approach is providing a new momentum and energy inside ANZ.
Our new senior management responsibilities are designed to build an
even stronger customer focus and greater ability to grow our
consumer, corporate, and international franchises. I am also
overseeing Risk personally in the current uncertain global
environment."

The new management responsibilities are effective immediately.
