The Australian Securities Exchange has launched a major education initiative to help people who are thinking of buying shares for the first time, or getting back into the market. The Getting Started in Shares seminars in February and March are part of broader ASX programs to help share investors.
A survey conducted by ASX found that sharemarket beginners find it hard to source basic educational information. Media publications, sharebroker research and even books are often designed for investors with at least a basic understanding of shares. Sometimes, such research is accompanied by offers to buy products or services, which may not suit investors seeking independent, balanced educational information, available in print or online, or the ability to hear presenters and ask questions.
So that's why we are running these free seminars. They are designed for people who know little or nothing about the sharemarket but are eager to learn the basics and understand the "next steps" involved in share investing. These presentations are an excellent starting point before using other ASX resources, such as online courses.
The Getting Started in Shares seminars explain:
- The absolute basics of share investing
- Widely used sharemarket terms
- Key shares selection techniques
- How to get started in the market.
The seminars are not recommended for experienced investors or those familiar with the main concepts of share investing. They are designed specifically for investors, of all ages, who want to know what the sharemarket is and how it can help them achieve their investment goals.
The Getting Started in Shares seminars will be held in:
- Melbourne - Tuesday, February 15 (day and night sessions)
- Brisbane - Monday, February 21 (night session)
- Sydney - Wednesday, February 23 (day and night sessions)
- Adelaide - Monday, February 28 (night session)
- Perth - Wednesday, March 2 (night session)
- Canberra - Wednesday, March 9 (night session).
Use the above links to register your attendance and confirm your seat at the event.
Some people may not be able to attend these sessions but still want to learn more about getting started. If this applies to you then you can register for our online webinar. ASX Webinars are the next best thing to attending events in person as you can hear presenters and ask questions in real-time.
The webinar is on:
Tuesday, March 8 (12.30-1.30pm). Register for the webinar here.
