Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO)
AEMO operates the National Electricity Market (NEM) as well as the retail and wholesale gas markets of south eastern Australia. AEMO is an independent, member based organisation working in the long-term interests of Australian consumers by ensuring that energy markets operate to balance issues of price, quality, safety, reliability and security of energy supply.
Australian Energy Regulator (AER)
The AER regulates the wholesale electricity market and is responsible for the economic regulation of the electricity transmission and distribution networks in the National Electricity Market (NEM). The AER is also responsible for the economic regulation of gas transmission and distribution networks and enforcing the national gas law and national gas rules in all jurisdictions except Western Australia.
The ASX Group's activities span primary and secondary market services, including capital formation and hedging, trading and price discovery (Australian Securities Exchange); central counterparty risk transfer (ASX Clearing Corporation); and securities settlement for both the equities and fixed income markets (ASX Settlement Corporation).
