Trading strategies

There are a range of possible investment strategies or techniques used to select shares. From fundamental to technical analyis and growth versus income investing it is important to understand how many investors come to the choice of which share and when to buy.A great place to start is by reviewing our online equities courses. Three of these courses have been created to cover.

It may help to first think about what you want from your investment whether it be growth, income, value or protection.

Many investors use price charts to identify stocks and other securities to invest in or to sell, this approach is called technical analysis. Over the years various chartists have come up with a number of different types of charts to try and refine their trading activities, these include candlesticks, Gann charts, point and figure charts just to name a few. All this can be very confusing to someone just starting out.

The ASX Charting Library explains these and other types of charts and outlines the meanings of the different patterns they form.

If you are considering the use of technical analysis it is important that you get up to market information.  The ASX Information Vendors Guide (PDF 1.33 MB) details the providers that offer market data to retail clients.
