- transparent price discovery
- market liquidity (risk transfer)
- reduced counterparty risk
- anonymity
- initial margin flexibility
- robust regulatory and compliance frameworks
- standard product and contract format
As the largest futures exchange and clearing house in the Asia Pacific (by value of trade), ASX is seamlessly integrated with all of the clearing participants, brokers and financial market participants that service energy and environmental product markets globally.
To provide market participants with the maximum time to prepare for the listing of ASX's new energy and environmental products, ASX has set an expected launch window of Feb-May 2009. Specific listing dates will be set subject to the non-disallowance process under the Corporations Act and feedback from market participants as to the status of their readiness.

Futures and options contracts on Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) will complement and enhance the transparency and liquidity of the existing over-the-counter (OTC) based spot and forward markets which support the Mandatory Renewable Energy Target (MRET) scheme and expanded national Renewable Energy Target (RET).
Victorian wholesale gas futures, strip futures products and calendar year strip options will enable firms to better manage their market risks.
Electricity futures and options for two grid reference points in the New Zealand electricity market will provide firms with access to greater liquidity that will enable them to better manage their market risks and make informed investment decisions.
The electricity futures and options market operated by ASX underpins price discovery and risk transfer in the forward markets for electricity bought and sold in the National Electricity Market (NEM).
