This is your opportunity to learn more about how ASX Grain Futures and Options can be used by your business to manage risk.

ASX proposes to hold grain futures workshops in the following towns in 2009.

The Course

Attendees will be introduced to the basics of futures and options, have the mechanics of the ASX contracts, including pricing and delivery, explained and given an update on the development of the ASX Grain Futures market. Attendees will be required to apply discussed concepts through interactive group sessions. With the liberalised marketing environment for wheat now a reality, course attendees will learn how to follow, access and benefit from the ASX Grain Futures market as well as know where to go to continue learning and further develop marketing knowledge and skills.

The Presenter

Dougal Hunter, Manager of Agricultural Derivatives at ASX Limited is the workshop presenter. Dougal has over 12 years experience in grain marketing and derivatives and has been managing the ASX Grain Futures market for the last 5 years. Since 2006, Dougal has presented a series of ASX workshops and is a lecturer and task force member for a number of derivative courses run by Kaplan Professional. Dougal has recently undertaken studies in Certificate IV Workplace Training and Assessment which has been incorporated in this course.

The Proposed Locations

The proposed schedule of workshops will be rescheduled to incorporate the proposed listing of Western Australia Wheat Futures and Options, which has been deferred. Alternative dates will be released in due course. ASX apologises for any inconvenience caused.

The above schedule of events is contingent on reaching a minimum number of attendees. To ensure a valuable learning experience, workshops also have a maximum number of attendees per session. ASX will only process workshop payments when the minimum number has been achieved and associated details have been confirmed.

Everyone involved in the Australian Grain Industry would benefit from knowing more about ASX Grain Futures and Options. The market helps resolve issues such as price risk, counterparty credit risk, production risk and provides price transparency to all. The workshops explain how ASX can be utilised to protect your business from grain price risk. The number of attendees will be limited so that all participants can benefit from an interactive experience. As a result, RSVP is essential.

  • Growers - Learn how to protect your business from falling prices, credit risk, ASX is accessible for all and exists so that you can protect yourself from such adverse business conditions.
  • Consumers - Learn how to protect your business from rising grain prices (drought prices) using ASX Grain Futures and Call Options. ASX is accessible for all and exists so that you can protect yourself from such adverse business conditions.
  • Trade - Learn how ASX can be incorporated in your daily trading activity. For example, spread trading, option trading, performing Exchange For Physical (EFP) trades and minimising counterparty credit risk.
  • Accountants - Learn about the flexible nature of derivatives and the clearing and settlement role of the Australian Clearing House.
  • AFSL - Attendance and successful completion of written exam = 6 structured hours for Continuing Professional Development.

What is the cost?

The cost for the one day workshop is only $330 (GST Included).

There are substantial costs associated with staging such an event. These costs must be covered to ensure the future of like events. Every effort has been made to make the cost of the workshop as economical as possible and ASX is confident you will get great value from this investment.
