S&P/ASX 200 Index

The S&P/ASX 200 index is recognised as the investable benchmark for the Australian equity market. It addresses the needs of investment managers to benchmark against a portfolio characterized by sufficient size and liquidity. The S&P/ASX 200 is comprised of the S&P/ASX 100 plus an additional 100 stocks. It forms the basis for the ASX mini200 futures contract, and the SPDR S&P/ASX 200 exchange-traded fund.

S&P/ASX 300 Index

The S&P/ASX 300 index provides additional depth and coverage to the S&P/ASX 200 whilst maintaining strict liquidity guidelines. It provides up to an additional 100 small-cap stocks to the S&P/ASX 200. Companies removed from the index will be replaced when a suitable candidate is available, or at the quarterly review.

S&P/ASX 20 Index

The S&P/ASX 20 index is comprised of the 20 largest stocks by market capitalisation in Australia, emphasizing liquidity and investability. It is the narrowest index of the Standard & Poor's Australian index family.

S&P/ASX 50 Index

ASX code: XFL
The S&P/ASX 50 index comprises the 50 largest stocks by market capitalisation in Australia. The constituent companies represent the biggest national and multi-national publicly listed companies in the Australian equity market. The S&P/ASX 50 index places an emphasis on liquidity and investability. The constituents of the index are reviewed quarterly using the previous six months data. The index forms the basis for the SPDR S&P/ASX 50 exchange-traded fund, and the ASX mini50 futures contract.

S&P/ASX MidCap 50 Index

The S&P/ASX MidCap 50 index is comprised of companies within the S&P/ASX 100, but not those included in the S&P/ASX 50. The index provides a benchmark for large active managers where the emphasis is on having a portfolio with sufficient liquidity.

S&P/ASX 100 Index

The S&P/ASX 100 index is Australia's premier large capitalisation equity index. It is comprised of 100 stocks selected by the S&P Australian Index Committee. The index provides a benchmark for large active managers whose emphasis is on having a portfolio with strong liquidity. It essentially covers large-cap and mid-cap stocks evaluated for liquidity and size.

S&P/ASX 100 Index

All Ordinaries Index

ASX code: XAO
The All Ordinaries index is Australia's premier market indicator. The index represents the 500 largest companies listed on the Australian Stock Exchange. Market capitalisation is the only eligibility requirement of constituents, as liquidity is not considered, with the exception of foreign domiciled companies.

S&P/ASX All Australian 50 Index

The S&P/ASX All Australian 50 is large-cap index that consists exclusively of Australian domestic companies. The S&P/ASX All Australian 50 enables investors to monitor the performance of Australian domestic companies and construct internationally diversified portfolios with a clear and concise allocation to Australian equities. Index constituents will be selected primarily by capitalisation, however liquidity and investability are also part of the index selection process. Note that ASX listed New Zealand- and Papua New Guinean-domiciled companies are treated as domestic for index purposes. The S&P/ASX All Australian 50 Index will be included in the S&P Global 1200.

S&P/ASX All Australian 200 Index

The S&P/ASX All Australian 200 is a broad market index that consists exclusively of Australian domiciled companies. S&P/ASX All Australian 200 Index constituents will be selected primarily by capitalisation, however liquidity and investability are also part of the index selection process. Note that ASX listed New Zealand- and Papua New Guinean-domiciled companies are treated as domestic for index purposes. Similar to the S&P/ASX All Australian 50 Index, the S&P/ASX All Australian 200 allows investors to focus on a purely Australian investment universe and construct portfolios with a clear and concise allocation to Australian equities.

S&P/ASX Small Ordinaries Index

ASX code: XSO
The S&P/ASX Small Ordinaries index is comprised of companies included in the S&P/ASX 300 index, but not in the S&P/ASX 100 index. This index provides a benchmark for small-cap investments.

S&P/ASX Industrial / Resources Indices

The S&P/ASX Industrials and Resources indices are calculated by Standard & Poor's for the S&P/ASX 100, S&P/ASX 200, S&P/ASX 300, S&P/ASX Small Ordinaries and S&P/ASX MidCap 50 indices. The constituents of the Industrials and Resources indices are determined by the Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS) assigned to each stock. A company that is classified in either the GICS Energy Sector (1st tier) or the GICS Metals and Mining Industry (3rd tier) will fall into the appropriate Resources index. All other remaining stocks will fall into the appropriate Industrials index.

S&P/ASX 300 Metals and Mining Index

The S&P/ASX300 Metals & Mining index is based on the S&P/ASX 300 index and comprises companies that are classified as being in the Metals and Mining industry.  It includes producers of aluminium, gold, steel, precious metals and minerals and also diversified metals and minerals.  The new indices recognise the important position of the mining sector in the Australian equity market and will enhance the profile of the Metals and Mining and Gold sectors within both the Australian and international markets.

S&P/ASX Gold Index

ASX code: XGD
S&P/ASX Gold Index will include companies that are included in the Gold sub-industry of the All Ordinaries Index. This Index will be of significant benefit to the gold industry, helping to raise the profile of this vital market sector.
