The role of independence in equities research
Confidence in the efficient operation of our financial markets underpins all investment decisions. Confidence is a function of many variables, including the quality, and timeliness of information delivered to the market. And perhaps even more importantly, confidence is gained by investor perceptions of the 'objectivity' of reporting about the market and its participants. ASX Capital Markets Survey - SME's
A cursory look at the trading activity of large institutional investors as well as the financial media paints a picture of an Australian market dominated by the blue-chip end of the market. Listed property tops the list of best performing investments for 2004 with returns between 10% and 12.3%, higher than returns from shares and residential investment property.
