Working with other exchanges
In order to keep abreast of international regulatory developments, and to influence those developments, ASX is a member of several international financial markets organisations:
- Intermarket Surveillance Group
- World Federation of Exchanges
- International Organization Of Securities Commission (IOSCO)
- Asian and Oceanian Stock Exchanges Federation
- Additionally, ASX has signed MOUs with a number of other exchanges
The Intermarket Surveillance Group (ISG) is an international committee comprised of members from exchanges all around the world, including every major stock exchange. Membership in the ISG allows all members to share surveillance and investigative information to ensure that each exchange/regulator has access to the necessary information to effectively regulate its marketplace. The ISG promotes effective market surveillance among international exchanges and assists in the development of international best practice.
The World Federation of Exchanges (WFE). The Federation is a private international organisation comprised of 57 member exchanges, 21 affiliates and 34 correspondents. It provides a forum for communication, analysis and debate among members. Its purpose is to facilitate the representation, development of organised and regulated markets, and to meet the needs of evolving capital markets in the best interest of their users.
International Organization of Securities Commission (IOSCO) is an international standard setting body. Cooperation and transfer of expertise, in particular between developed and emerging markets, are at the heart of its mission. IOSCO has 181 members that regulate more than 90% of the world's securities markets. IOSCO is an important international cooperative forum for securities regulatory agencies.
Asian and Oceanian Stock Exchanges Federation (AOSEF). The purpose of AOSEF is to facilitate the exchange of information and to promote mutual assistance among its members, with a view to developing the securities markets in the region.
ASX has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with other exchanges for the purpose of building relationships in the region, and for facilitating mutual understanding and information sharing.
