Changing face of Australian investors

min read

The 2017 ASX Australian Investor Study looks at what Australian investors are thinking and doing now.

ASX has been surveying investors since 1986 to learn about their attitudes and behaviours when it comes to investing. The 2017 Australian Investor Study is our most comprehensive study yet. This edition discusses some megatrends and their impact on the investment landscape, as well as more comprehensive questions about risk attitudes, familiarity with investment options, and views of new technologies such as robo-advice.

The study identifies the key investment groups: Next Generation, Wealth accumulators, and Retirees and asks: what’s in their portfolios now, and where they plan to invest in the future.

60% of Australian adults or 11.2 million people hold investments outside of their institutional superannuation fund. More and more young people are investing outside their institutional superannuation funds. Over the last 5 years the proportion of 18-24 year olds investing has doubled from 10% to 20%.
