New Market Integrity Role

In order to underline ASX's absolute commitment to maintaining a market of high integrity, ASX is today announcing the appointment of Karen Hamilton to the new post of Chief Integrity Officer.

In this role, Ms Hamilton will be responsible for all market integrity functions conducted by ASX, including supervision of listed companies and of market participants.

The change will come into effect on 1 January 2004.

Ms Hamilton is currently Executive General Manager, Issuers and Market Integrity and is also chair of the ASX Corporate Governance Council, a role she will retain under the new structure.

The Managing Director of ASX, Mr Richard Humphry, said the appointment would further strengthen ASX's supervisory function and ensure the maximum independence of the integrity division.

The new structure underlines ASX's strongly held conviction that market supervision is a core element of its business as a licensed market operator and is in line with the reports and recommendations of the ASX Supervisory Review and ASIC.

The creation of the Integrity Division will complement the mechanisms already in place to protect ASX market integrity from questions of compromise arising from conflict with its commercial aspirations.

The change will not alter existing arrangements of Companies Advisers serving as the principal contact point for communications between ASX and listed companies.
