Expiry dates for options, LEPOs and futures contracts

Listed below are the expiry dates for options, LEPOs and futures contracts. The expiry date for equity options is usually the third Thursday of the contract month. The ASX Clear (formerly Australian Clearing House) has the right to change this date should the need arise. Your broker can provide you with details.

Index Options and Index LEPOs expire on the third Thursday of the contract month providing this is a trading day. ASX Clear has the right to change this date should the need arise.

Please note: The below calendars only show monthly expiry dates - weekly expiry dates are generally Thursday.

Stock option listing conventions

The listing day for the various expiry cycles for equity options are shown below:

  • 9, 12 and rolling month | Listed the day after the nearest relevant series expires
European style exercise

All LEPOs are European style.

Option expiry details
  • Single Stock ETOs: ASX will list series in the first 6 maturity months and then only March, June, September and December expiry months out for a period of 2 years. For maturities in year 3 ASX will only list June and December expiry months. ASX will not list ETO series with expiries beyond 3 years. On elected single stock ETO classes, ASX will list weekly option expiries so that the front 3 maturities are available.
  • Index ETOs: XJO option contracts available in the first 6 maturity months and then only March, June, September and December expiry months out for a period of 18 months. XJO options will also have weekly option expiries listed so that the front 4 maturities are available. SPI option contracts will list 4 quarterly months (March, June, September and December) to a maximum maturity of 1 year.
  • ETF ETOs: ASX will list series in the front 4 quarterly months to a maximum maturity of 1 year.
