What is Bank Bill Swap Rate (BBSW)?

The Bank Bill Swap Rate (BBSW) is one of the most widely referenced benchmark rates used in lending transactions and interest rate derivatives. BBSW measures the price at which Prime Bank eligible securities trade in the open market between 8.30am and 10.00am on a Sydney business day.

In 2018, the BBSW methodology underwent significant reform. In line with global best practices, including the IOSCO Principles for Financial Benchmarks and recommendations from the Council of Financial Regulators, a transaction-based layer was added to the BBSW calculation waterfall.

For more information about the methodology and guidelines, see the reference documents.
