Students can pick stocks and compete against their classmates and other schools, with the chance to win real cash prizes for their syndicates at state and national levels.

Overall, by participating in the ASX Schools Sharemarket Game, your students will develop valuable life, finance, maths, business & economics skills. They can participate individually or form a group with their classmates, fostering collaboration and friendly competition. Check out some important rules your students need to be aware of.

Curriculum aligned, skill-based lessons and learning outcomes

These learning resources were designed with busy teachers in mind, linking to several subject areas Australia-wide. All materials are easy to modify and include a glossary and assessment task with embedded links to general capabilities such as literacy and numeracy, and to cross-curriculum areas, with content that includes environmental issues and a celebration of Indigenous involvement with the ASX.

To explore how these engaging, skill-based, curriculum mapped learning materials can help busy teachers Australia-wide, we spoke to Roset Khair, the award-winning teacher who developed the lessons.

She highlights that her main focus was to make it easy for educators to see the links to their subject areas, saving them a lot of time planning.

Roset has been teaching financial literacy for over 10 years. She runs numerous teacher training courses around assessment, literacy, creative and project-based learning as a Director of the professional association for teachers in her subject areas in NSW.

Teachers share their experience

"The Sharemarket Game gives the boys a real-life experience of trading, further develops their financial literacy and opens discussions with peers, teachers and parents. The ASX has sparked life-long learning and passion in the share market and has provided the boys with knowledge on responsible economic investing that they will carry with them to their adult years."

Mr. Hughes, Knox Grammar School, NSW

"A sense of friendly competition, combined with real-world relevance, kept engagement strong throughout the Game. Ultimately, the Game transformed abstract concepts about saving, investing, and financial risk-taking into real, engaging experiences that built long-term financial capability and confidence."

Mr. Purcell, St Bedes College, VIC

"Although the Game isn’t part of our formal assessment, students are given some class time to engage with it and are encouraged to continue exploring it independently. The videos & worksheets on the ASX website were very useful and helped students navigate the platform and understand key investment terms."

Mrs. Milne, Nambour State High School, QLD
